The Blooming of Polly Polly came to me in November of xxxx at the age of 12 weeks as a single orphan. She was a gorgeous solid black cat but extremely frightened. She would have to be cornered in order to touch and hold her. She remained stiff as a board and felt very uncomfortable while being held. It was obvious that she had very little human socializing. I put her in a room with several other kittens her age and a friendly but shy cat. She remained afraid of me and would run from me when I approached. However, she bonded to the other kittens and cat. Slowly, I was able to pet her while she ate. After several months it became apparent that she would not warm up on her own with my attention, so I took her and Finnegan, who she seemed to like the best, into my office where they would have to be with me quite a bit more. Since it was a much smaller room with lots of hiding places, I think she became more secure. When I fed her and Finnegan, up on a table, she was open to letting me pet her and scratch her. It wasn't long when she would come over to me and sleep under my desk by my feet. I would reach down and pet her. For a couple months it got progressively better and now she does not run and hide when I approach her. She actually flops down and wants me to rub her tummy. She is not scared of me anymore, nor does she run from me. This took time and patience to get her to warm up to me and enjoy my company. Now, she lays by my feet and won't leave me alone until I play with her and pet her. She loves to be scratched and petted now. She might not ever like strangers, but she has grown to trust her personal human (me). Polly has bloomed into a sweet and loving cat. She will need an understanding and patient adult human or two and a quiet home. She gets along great with other cats. She is such a low maintenance cat and at such a young age (only 1 ½ years old) she has a long life ahead of her to keep you company.
